"The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught, but that every child should be given the desire to learn”

Principals message

Alma mater, recognizes the phases of developmental stages and desires of each child and advocates meeting them with extra-ordinary ways and curriculum. We provide a welcoming environment where childhood is nurtured to form the foundation of a productive adulthood. We deeply believe in treating each child as an individual and that children can learn through various methodologies, that is why we try and incorporate multi-dimensional pedagogies into our dynamic curriculum and give our students the best education that meets international standards. As the Head of alma mater, my first priority is to help my students to attain those milestones that will develop self confidence. It is my firm belief that school life is always a memorable chapter for every child’s life. However, if the academics are complemented by interactive activities, it embellishes the child’s individuality and makes the experience even more learning and cherishable. This prestigious school was founded in 1980 by a group of committed and compassionate educationists keen to set high education standards for the children. Dr. Ahsan-ul-Haq Rana and Dr. Jamila Rana, both the founders of the school, had done masters from Columbia University, U.S.A and were serving at key educational teaching posts at the time. Till today, alma mater has maintained its level of excellence and has in this long journey, produced thousands of students who are now serving in Pakistan and abroad to make this world a better place to live in. Pre School

At this age, children are making new discoveries daily. As the two year olds begin to exert their independence, our preschool program opens their eyes to a world of learning, sharing and exploring. We offer a balanced program which addresses the child as a whole, supporting his/her social, emotional, cognitive and spiritual growth by encouraging him/her to socialize, share, make friends, interact cooperatively, gain independence and self-control and reach her/his full potential. The program is designed to give children the opportunity to explore a wide range of developmentally appropriate activities (language, movement, science, music, etc). Our curriculum intends to make the child learn the following skills:-

Encourage children to think, reason, question and experiment.
to develop eye-hand coordination, small motor skills and problem skills through play dough, block building, hook-together toys and classifying objects.
Developing awareness of other children and people in their environment.
Expressing creativity through art and music.
Learning new vocabulary and repeating words and short sentences.
Recognizing numbers and counting
Introduction of word problem solving.
Concept of time and calendar.
Exploration of nature concepts.
Expansion of the emotional side of the child by making him able to take comfort in familiar objects and expanding the mind by trying new things and gaining confidence from success.
Understanding a sequence of events, and grasping spatial relationships and the concept of time.
Increasing their confidence to make personal choices and share their ideas, thoughts and feelings with the group.

The Preparatory program of Alma Mater has been on the educational scenario since 1980. Thousands of students have been successful in the Entrance – Tests during this long period. This is due to the carefully designed curriculum meeting the high standards of the Entrance–Tests’ preparation and the vast experience of its devoted teachers that Alma Mater has emerged as a true institution of learning dedicated to lay a strong academic foundation of the children.
Alma Mater offers rigorous preparatory programmes from K.G to Grade 1, K-I to K-3, K-2 to K-3 and K-3 to K-4. These programmes have been carefully designed according to the requirements of the Entrance–Tests of Aitchison College and Convent of Jesus and Mary.
The Preparatory Program complements or activity based pre-school program and takes its full swing from Grade 1. It strives to make children confident and creative builders of their future. The focus is on the whole child. We work toward an integrated curriculum that reaches across disciplines and age levels. The students are encouraged to meet academic challenges with openness, enthusiasm and willingness to solve problems.

Some of the salient features of the preparatory groups are:
i). Focused coverage of syllabus.
ii). Emphasis on important aspects of the syllabus.
iii). Development of Math Reasoning with the help of IXL Math software.
iv). Stress on English Reasoning with the help of computer activities.
v). Repeated revision of topics in smaller groups.
vi). Extensive rehearsals of Interview.
vii). Regular practice of all topics through carefully designed worksheets.
Thus, the, Preparatory Program is designed to prepare children for a successful entry into the reputed schools of Lahore especially Aitchison College and Convent.
Our philosophy is that Alma Mater should provide a foundation for later success and help to promote a positive attitude toward lifelong learning.

This is the first building block of our junior school. This is also the most important preparatory class of Entrance – Test to various schools, including Aitchison College. It is a continuation and extension of Preschool teaching especially of kindergarten. Although it is more rigorous than kindergarten, it is speckled with activities in the learning centers in order to ease the academic burden. Thus, learning becomes fun for the children. K-I has a comprehensive curriculum supported by an array of extracurricular activities woven into its colourful fabric. The children absorb all the knowledge through the carefully designed activities in the learning centers. Developing critical thinking skills is the main focus of the teachers. For this, the students polish their reasoning skills on the IXL programme. This computer based exercise not only opens the door to the latest technology but also increases the mathematical and logical skills of the children. Language Arts (English), Math, Science, S. Studies, Computer, Urdu, Islamiat and Art are the main subjects. Giving presentations in the main subjects is mandatory for all students. Thus, they enhance their public speaking skills from the very first grade of the junior school. Creativity is the essence of teaching and every child is encouraged to fan his expression be it Art, English, Urdu or any other area. This embeds in the students unshakable self confidence which eventually is the key to the child’s success in later life.

Grade 2 -5
Grade 2 and onwards children embark upon a learning journey in which there is no looking back. The chain of concepts taught in the different subjects in the previous classes arouses in the students a curiosity which increases with the passage of time. The dedicated team of teachers scaffold the development and learning of every child physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially. Every aspect of a child’s development is recognized and developed holistically. This results in the majority of students becoming all rounders. Alma Mater is proud of the versatility of its students and celebrates diversity with fondness.
The students are taught keeping in mind their individuality and each child is dealt as a different case. The classes are integrated with the latest technology to inculcate an innovation and creativity in our pedagogy. The students are provided an environment which aims to build the complete personality of the child through their involvement in extracurricular and academic activities. A special focus is given on academics and on improving each child individually. Remedial classes are conducted for the weaker cases.

Students learn through practical activities and experiments. Activity based teaching is at the core of our academic values. Children learn FRENCH as a foreign language, since we believe that in this day and age, an exposure to international languages is a must for their overall development.

Our classes of the senior school follow the Cambridge curriculum which leads to the O Levels programme. The books, teaching methodology and the grading is done as per the Cambridge guidelines.
The students are made independent and curious learners, the curriculum is embellished with practical experiments and activities to make the students well prepared for the academic challenges ahead.

Our English and mathematics software particularly help in increasing the reasoning ability of the children. The tablet classes enable them to use different apps to learn in a fun, practical and interactive way. Whether it’s building a game on Scratch or building a website using Weebly, the aim is to instill in them a love for learning and to make education fun and interactive for them and to motivate them into becoming lifelong learners as per our school philosophy.

Students are given the chance to excel in dramatics, debates and sports by being a part of the school societies. The weekend clubs give them the opportunity to participate in their favourite activities.

Parent Connect

At alma mater we believe that student improvement is dependent on a positive input from all three pillars of this relationship i.e. Students, parents and the teachers. We believe in involving the parents in every way possible as their interest makes the motivation of the children increased manifold. We aim to educate the parents to our way of teaching and our classroom philosophy and on the technological changes that we are doing within the classes.

Alma mater launched the parent connect initiative. The purpose of this initiative is to look for ways in which we can involve the parents and to make communication with the parents effective and to keep them updated of their child’s performance in the classes.
Some of the initiatives that we have taken under the parent connect banner are:

Tri: Tri has a dedicated student portal for the parents through whom the parents can view the latest grades, fee bills and attendance of the children. The home works for all the classes are also uploaded on the student portal. The student portal has a special ‘worksheet reinforcement website’ in which extra worksheets related to classes are uploaded weekly for parents who want extra practice for their children. The student portal ensures consistent communication between the school and the parents which is essential for effective progress of the children.

Newsletters: The school sends monthly newsletters to all the classes which updates the parents on the coming activities, the incumbent month’s syllabus and the things which most children await at the start of the month: announcing the previous month’s Student of the month and the Parent of the month

CDs: Alma mater believes in providing the children the best platform to achieve their potential and to do this we use a variety of means and teaching pedagogies. We believe that the parents should be helped and guided in what we are doing in the classroom. Alma mater provides CDs to parents which guides them on how they can use the IXL, Spelingcity, ABC Music and Me website, Student Portal at home. We provide nursery rhyme CDs that we do in the classes for the parents as well.

Parent Seminar: As part of our parent connect initiative, alma mater plans to hold parent seminars annually on different problems that the parents face with regard to their children, both academic and non-academic. The first in this series of seminars was done in the session 2013-14 in which the school teachers along with Mrs Maryam Haider, an education psychologist informed the parents about how they can help their child deal with psychological tantrums, discipline issues, sleep issues, lunch issues, sibling arrival issues and the most important, independence issues.

Parent teacher conferences: Parent teacher conferences are held twice a year to give the parents an opportunity to meet the teachers and to discuss the performance of their children. This is a good opportunity for the parents to acquaint themselves the teachers and to discuss the improvements and the shortcomings of their children.
